CENELEC<\/a> has published\na new RoHS standard, announcing it, here<\/a>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The new standard is EN ISO 63000:2018 Technical Documentation for the assessment of electrical and electronic products with respect to the restriction of hazardous substances<\/em>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The referenced CENELEC article indicates that there is a five-year\ntransition period where both standards will be accepted for compliance to the\nRoHS Directive 2011\/65\/EU. EN 50581:2012 will then be withdrawn at the end of\nthe five years.<\/p>\n\"\"<\/a><\/a><\/p>\n\n\n\n

So what now?<\/p>\n\n\n\n

For now, EN 50581:2012 is the only harmonized EN standard\nfor RoHS. The only official list is the list published in the official journal\nof the EU, here<\/a>.\nThat list shows only EN 50581:2012:<\/p>\n\n\n\n

I went to the CENELEC\npage<\/a> for this standard today to get an understanding of the dates:<\/p>\n\n\n\n

From the above it appears that the standard was available starting on December 7, 2018, formally announced on March 7, 2019, and will be published in the Official Journal of The EU<\/a> on June 7, 2019. Lining up the June 7, 2019 date with the CENELEC article, it seems that EN 50581:2012 will be acceptable until June 7, 2024.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

What this means to a manufacturer with a product in the scope of RoHS 2011\/65\/EU is that between June 7, 2019 and June 7, 2024 either standard can be used to prove RoHS compliance. As of June 7, 2024 only EN 63000:2018 will be acceptable.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
