{"id":895,"date":"2019-03-22T10:03:34","date_gmt":"2019-03-22T14:03:34","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/f2labs.com\/technotes\/?p=895"},"modified":"2023-05-03T11:09:51","modified_gmt":"2023-05-03T15:09:51","slug":"new-rohs-standard-en-630002018","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/f2labs.com\/technotes\/2019\/03\/22\/new-rohs-standard-en-630002018\/","title":{"rendered":"New RoHS standard \u2013 EN 63000:2018"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.cenelec.eu\/\">CENELEC<\/a> has published\na new RoHS standard, announcing it, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.cencenelec.eu\/news\/brief_news\/Pages\/TN-2019-009.aspx\">here<\/a>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The new standard is <em>EN ISO 63000:2018 Technical Documentation for the assessment of electrical and electronic products with respect to the restriction of hazardous substances<\/em>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><p>The referenced CENELEC article indicates that there is a five-year\ntransition period where both standards will be accepted for compliance to the\nRoHS Directive 2011\/65\/EU. EN 50581:2012 will then be withdrawn at the end of\nthe five years.<\/p>\n<a href=\"https:\/\/f2labs.com\/request-quote\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"wp-image-6640 size-full aligncenter\" src=\"https:\/\/f2labs.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/07\/button_request-a-quote-1.png\" alt=\"\" width=\"210\" height=\"42\"><\/a><a href=\"https:\/\/f2labs.com\/request-quote\"><\/a><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>So what now?<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>For now, EN 50581:2012 is the only harmonized EN standard\nfor RoHS. The only official list is the list published in the official journal\nof the EU, <a href=\"https:\/\/eur-lex.europa.eu\/LexUriServ\/LexUriServ.do?uri=OJ:C:2012:363:0006:0007:EN:PDF\">here<\/a>.\nThat list shows only EN 50581:2012:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"1024\" height=\"202\" src=\"https:\/\/f2labs.com\/technotes\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/03\/1-2-1024x202.jpg\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-896\" srcset=\"https:\/\/f2labs.com\/technotes\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/03\/1-2-1024x202.jpg 1024w, https:\/\/f2labs.com\/technotes\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/03\/1-2-300x59.jpg 300w, https:\/\/f2labs.com\/technotes\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/03\/1-2-768x151.jpg 768w, https:\/\/f2labs.com\/technotes\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/03\/1-2.jpg 1101w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 1024px) 100vw, 1024px\" \/><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p>I went to the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.cenelec.eu\/dyn\/www\/f?p=104:110:351401563377001::::FSP_ORG_ID,FSP_PROJECT,FSP_LANG_ID:1258637,62349,25\">CENELEC\npage<\/a> for this standard today to get an understanding of the dates:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"410\" height=\"400\" src=\"https:\/\/f2labs.com\/technotes\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/03\/2-2.jpg\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-897\" srcset=\"https:\/\/f2labs.com\/technotes\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/03\/2-2.jpg 410w, https:\/\/f2labs.com\/technotes\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/03\/2-2-300x293.jpg 300w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 410px) 100vw, 410px\" \/><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p>From the above it appears that the standard was available starting on December 7, 2018, formally announced on March 7, 2019, and will be published in the <a href=\"https:\/\/eur-lex.europa.eu\/oj\/direct-access.html\">Official Journal of The EU<\/a> on June 7, 2019. Lining up the June 7, 2019 date with the CENELEC article, it seems that EN 50581:2012 will be acceptable until June 7, 2024.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>What this means to a manufacturer with a product in the scope of RoHS 2011\/65\/EU is that between June 7, 2019 and June 7, 2024 either standard can be used to prove RoHS compliance.
